Five Year Anniversary

Cheers! This past week marked five years since the first post on Finding Franchot. I've had a wonderful five years connecting with other fans and learning so much about Franchot in the process. Having this space available to share Franchot facts has been such a positive thing in my life and I hope reading it has been positive for you. Thank you!

In the last six months I've made some additional pages on the blog that may not be readily apparent if you're using a mobile device so I wanted to point those out in this post. For several years I also had a separate fansite where I uploaded photos and a timeline and life history of Franchot. This past year I decided to merge all of that information here in one place on the original blog. It seemed silly to be paying for a separate website when I was mostly utilizing this free blog for my posts and I realized I could host all of those pages here on the blog in a quality way. So now it's all in one place, easier for me to keep up with, and I can spend the money I save from not paying for a website to buying more Franchot photos (always a perk!).

Obviously, there are my regular blog posts here, but there are also the following pages:

If you were wondering where the fansite went, it's just moved its home to this original space. I have more information and photos to add to these pages and I'll continue to do so. Thanks for your support and patience!

The 1944 film noir Phantom Lady was just released on blu-ray. You can read more about the specs here

I'm hoping we will see some Warner Archive releases of other Franchot films (my personal wishlist includes the release of Gentlemen are Born, The Stranger's Return, Straight is the Way, or Between Two Women) later this year, but no word yet.

On the Blog in August

I will be writing about the 1933 pre-code The Stranger's Return for The Second Annual Barrymore Trilogy Blogathon hosted by In the Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood. Due to a busier work schedule in July, I wasn't able to post as often as I wanted. I am planning to post more frequently this month.

I did get a chance to work on my Finding Franchot fansite at www.findingfranchot.com in July and will continue to develop it in August. I've added quotes, some photos, and film listings, but I need to work on many more pages.

Sadie McKee will air on TCM on July 25th at 6:15 a.m. Eastern.


On the Blog:
In addition to my regular posts, I'll be writing about The Bride Wore Red for the Joan Crawford Blogathon hosted by In the Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood at the end of the month. Due to my work schedule, I was unable to update the additional Finding Franchot fansite in June. I plan to devote some time to adding more photos and information there this month.

I just discovered CineMaterial and I'm addicted! It's a database of high resolution film posters contributed by fans. You can purchase download credits to download movie posters for your own personal use. The collection of Franchot movie posters is impressive!

June Updates

TV Listings
As far as I know, there are no Franchot movies being shown on television this month. That doesn't mean he won't pop up on something you're watching! Sometimes his later tv performances don't appear on the listing sites.

The Blog
I already posted my take on The King Steps Out (1936) for the Royalty on Film Blogathon on June 3rd. I am not participating in any other blogathons this month, but have many posts planned for you here.

Additional Site    
After working on this blog for over a year and realizing that I'm as enthusiastic as ever to share Franchot information with you, I decided to create an actual .com site. This blog will remain here at www.franchottone.blogspot.com and will still be my main site and constantly updated. Now, I'll also have a fansite at www.findingfranchot.com that includes a feed for this blog, plus other features (a permanent slideshow of stunning Franchot portraits, a timeline of his life, a polished design) that I've been wanting to add.  It's by no means complete, but I'm looking forward to making it a full, comprehensive fansite in the future. Think of the Finding Franchot site as a portal to the Finding Franchot blog with bonus goodies!

Dangerous (1935) starring Franchot and Bette Davis will be airing on TCM on Tuesday, May 17 @ 12:00 AM (ET)

On the blog:
In addition to my regular posts, I'm participating in Movies Silently's Classic Movie Ice Cream Social blogathon at the end of the month. The blogathon is focusing on sunny, cheerful movies, so I'll be writing a post on the 1947 comedy Honeymoon starring Franchot, Shirley Temple, and Guy Madison. It's a delight to watch and a go-to movie when I need some cheering up.

I've been updating the other pages on this blog (displayed in the blog header). I consolidated the Print Resources and Online Resources pages into just one page called Additional Resources. The Additional Resources page includes book citations and online links for further Franchot research. It also includes a list of some of my favorite classic Hollywood websites and blogs.

Don't forget that I label each of my posts with relevant tags, so if you want to read up on a certain movie or person in Franchot's life or just want to read what Franchot said (tag: quotes by FT) or what others have said about Franchot (tag: quotes about FT), go to the tags on the left sidebar.

Love on the Run (1936) starring Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, and Franchot Tone will air on TCM on Wednesday, April 6 @ 03:00 PM (ET).

Phantom Lady (1944) starring Franchot Tone and Ella Raines will air on TCM on Friday, April 8 @ 06:30 PM (ET).

Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) starring Clark Gable, Charles Laughton, and Franchot Tone will air on TCM on Sunday, April 17 @ 08:00 PM (ET).

On the Blog
This blog and my Instagram account dedicated to Franchot both have 1 year anniversaries this month. Thank you to everyone who has followed me and my posts! This has been a wonderful outlet for my Franchot research, film summaries, and discoveries. It has given me the opportunity to meet other fans who admire Franchot's work as much as I do and that has been a true delight!

In April, I'm participating in two exciting classic film blogathons. In a few days, I'll be writing about the 1935 Franchot-Bette collaboration Dangerous for the Bette Davis Blogathon hosted by In The Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood. Later this month, I'll write about Franchot and Joan Crawford's relationship for the Star-Studded Couple Blogathon hosted by Phyllis Loves Classic Movies.

I didn't get a chance to write about the 1944 film Dark Waters in March, so I'll be posting that in April.

Update to Fast and Furious (1939)
