Doctor Franchot Tone to the Rescue

Hello and apologies for my five year absence. (I cannot believe it has been that many years since I posted on the blog.) I have not stopped loving, watching, and researching Franchot in that lengthy hiatus—multiple factors (moving several times, health issues, and a stressful world) just prevented me from taking the time to record my findings here.

It is Lupus Awareness Month and I have been dealing with aggressive Lupus attacks lately. I was diagnosed with the disease 13 years ago and it was during a particularly bad experience with it that I discovered Franchot on my television late at night. It was Three Loves Has Nancy and Franchot's performance lifted me from the pain and sadness I was feeling. I wrote a bit about that first experience in the linked post for the movie above. All this is to say Franchot's always been good medicine for me and he played interesting doctors throughout his career. Here are three posts I wrote about movies in which Franchot played a doctor:

Between Two Women, 1937

Between Two Women (1937)

A doctor is torn between the socialite whose life he saved and the nurse for whom he's always cared.

Dark Waters, 1944

Dark Waters (1944)

When a traumatized woman fears for her life on a Louisiana plantation, the local doctor comes to her rescue.

Uncle Vanya, 1957

Uncle Vanya (1957)

A country doctor attends to a family on a Russian estate.

Ben Casey, 1962

Revisiting the posts made me realize I've never written about Franchot's appearance in a 1962 episode of Ben Casey so that is at the top of my to do list when it comes to show summaries. I'll link to it here after I've completed it.

Ben Casey, 1965-66

You can find some information about his recurring role of Dr. Daniel Freeland in the final 1965-66 season of Ben Casey here
